Change of Address Checklist — full sample
This is the actual structure our generator produces from the default answers. When you buy, you fill in the form and your version reflects your household — rooms, timeline, province, and everything else.
Government & ID
- Canada Revenue Agency — update via CRA My Account (fastest, instant)
- Service Canada — EI, CPP, OAS, and any federal benefits
- ON health card — every province has its own form and window
- Driver's licence and vehicle registration — most provinces require this within 30 days (some sooner)
- Voter registration — Elections Canada online, plus your provincial elections agency
- Passport — no need to reissue, but update your contact info on file
- NEXUS — contact information updates must be made through a CBSA enrolment centre, not online
Financial & legal
- Every bank account, savings account, and TFSA
- Every credit card provider — this is where fraud alerts and replacement cards get lost
- Mortgage lender or landlord (both old and new)
- Investment / brokerage accounts — RRSP, RESP, TFSA, non-registered
- Payroll direct deposit and employer HR file
- Any loans: student, auto, personal, line of credit
- Your lawyer or notary — especially if closing was recent
Insurance & health
- Home or tenant insurance — a new address usually means a new policy, not just an update
- Auto insurance — rates change with postal code, get a fresh quote
- Life insurance policies
- Health and dental group benefits through work
- Family doctor, dentist, optometrist, and any specialists
- Pharmacy — transfer prescriptions if the pharmacy is changing
- Veterinarian — and update your pet's microchip registration
Utilities & home services
- Natural gas — final bill at the old address, opening account at the new
- Hydro / electricity
- Water (if separately billed)
- Internet and home phone
- Cell phone plan billing address
Vehicles
- Vehicle registration and licence plate renewal notices
- Your regular auto mechanic or dealer service centre
- Ask your dealer whether any open recall notices are tied to your VIN — recall mail goes to your address on file
- Roadside assistance / CAA membership
Memberships & subscriptions
- Costco or other wholesale club membership
- Gym or fitness studio membership
- Golf club membership
- Streaming, meal-kit, and other subscription billing addresses
- Loyalty programs — Aeroplan, PC Optimum, and similar
- Any subscription that ships a physical product
Work, school & community
- Employer HR file and any workplace mailing list
- Alumni association or university mailing list
- Professional associations, unions, or licensing bodies
- Charities you donate to — for accurate tax receipts
- Church or place of worship
- Let family and friends know directly — don't rely on them finding out from a card
Mail forwarding — the safety net
- Buy Canada Post mail forwarding for at least 6 months — this is what catches everything above that you miss
- Every time a forwarded piece of mail arrives, update that sender directly so the next cycle goes straight to the new address
