About Canadian Home Binder
Canadian Home Binder helps Canadian families raise capable kids and run capable households. We make practical digital systems — personalized binders, checklists, planners, and guides — for organizing the home, managing family schedules and money, preparing for emergencies, keeping up with home maintenance, and teaching children the real-world skills they'll need on their own.
Who's behind it
Canadian Home Binder is two people — a married couple in southwestern Ontario, running this alongside full-time work and four kids. It grew out of the ordinary reality of a busy household: hundreds of things a parent is expected to remember, organize, and eventually teach, most of it living in one person's head. We started writing it down into systems the whole family could use, and building the versions we couldn't find anywhere else.
Carissa
Household systems, recipes, and most of what we sell
Carissa is a mom of four who works full time from home in marketing. The household systems in these binders aren't theoretical — they're the ones she actually runs, in a house with four kids, two working parents, and no margin for a system that only works when everyone's in a good mood.

If a checklist in here feels like it was written by someone who has actually had to get four kids out the door on a Tuesday, that's why. The ones that didn't survive our own week didn't make it into the product.
Nick
Home maintenance, trades, and the technical side
Nick handles the home maintenance and trades side of the business. The maintenance binders and checklists come out of two decades of being around houses being built, gutted, repaired, and occasionally saved from their owners.
- Grew up flipping houses with his dad and uncle
- Six years of construction and facility work in the U.S. Air Force, and an associate degree in construction management
- Gutted and rebuilt two houses himself, down to the studs and back
- Built a barndominium from the ground up
- Spent a stretch managing insurance restoration projects — the water, fire, and nobody-checked-that-for-fifteen-years end of home ownership
- Now runs day-to-day operations for a mechanical contractor in southwestern Ontario: more than a hundred people across heating and cooling, plumbing, and electrical
That last one matters most for what we sell here. A hundred-odd technicians go into Ontario homes every day, and the same failures come back over and over — the filter nobody changed, the shut-off valve nobody could find at midnight, the water heater that was eleven years old and gave no warning. The maintenance checklists are built around what actually fails in Canadian houses, what it costs when it does, and which of it you can genuinely handle yourself.
First names only, no photos
That's a deliberate choice, and worth explaining rather than leaving to look evasive. We have four young children, and we're not putting them — or ourselves — on the internet. There are no family photos here, no headshots, and no last names. What you get instead is the work, and enough detail about where it comes from to judge whether we're worth listening to. We think that's the better trade.
The business is independently owned by the two of us, and nobody else writes the content.

Why Canadian
Most household templates are written for somewhere else. Ours reflect how Canadian households actually run — provinces and territories, RRSP/TFSA/RESP/FHSA instead of 401(k)s, Canadian seasons and weather, and the government programs, documents, and deadlines that apply here. Where a rule differs by province, we say so.
Why personalized
Most printable planners are one-size-fits-all. We build ours the other way around: you tell us about your household — how many people, kids, pets, your province, what you actually need tracked — and we generate a binder or checklist built around that. No irrelevant sections to skip past, no generic advice that doesn't apply to your home.
What we won't do
We're a small, independent operation, not a large company with a research team. We don't claim to replace a lawyer, accountant, or financial advisor, and we say so on the pages where it matters. Where we reference deadlines, tax rules, or safety guidance, we link to the official government or manufacturer source so you can verify it yourself.
Corrections & accuracy
Rules, deadlines, and dollar figures change — a provincial start date, an RRSP limit, a government program's eligibility rules. Where a page cites one of these, we link directly to the official source next to it, so you can check the current figure yourself rather than take our word for it. If you spot something that's out of date or wrong, email admin@canadianhomebinder.ca — we fix it and update the page's revision date, not just quietly patch it.
