Carnivore Grocery List Canada

No plants, and a lot fewer decisions than most diets — but organ meats and fat choice matter more than people expect.

Carnivore is the shortest grocery list on this page — meat, fish, eggs, and animal fats, nothing else — but the two decisions that actually matter (which cuts, and whether to include organ meats) are easy to get wrong by default.

What's on the list

  • Beef, pork, poultry, and fish — the core of the diet
  • Eggs
  • Animal fats (tallow, butter, ghee) for cooking
  • Salt, since carnivore excludes most seasoning blends that contain plant-derived ingredients

Choosing cuts for cost and calories

Fattier cuts (ground beef with higher fat content, chicken thighs over breast, pork shoulder) are both cheaper per pound and more calorie-dense than lean cuts, which matters on a diet with no carbohydrates to fall back on for energy. Leaner cuts aren't wrong, but a carnivore diet built entirely on lean meat tends to be harder to sustain calorically.

Why organ meats matter

  • Muscle meat alone is genuinely low in some nutrients (vitamin C, certain B vitamins) that organ meats — especially liver — provide
  • Liver, once a week or so, is the most commonly recommended addition for exactly this reason
  • Organ meats are also usually the cheapest cut per pound at most Canadian butchers, which helps offset the higher cost of a meat-only cart
